A win for community safety on Middleton Road
15/04/2025
In a strong show of partnership working, Oldham Council, Greater Manchester Police, and our ASB team have taken decisive action to protect residents from ongoing anti-social behaviour in Chadderton.
Following repeated noise complaints and serious concerns about the safety of a property on Middleton Road—including illegal tampering with the electricity meter—officers secured a closure order for the address on Wednesday, 20 March.
The resident had ignored multiple warnings and continued to cause disruption and distress to neighbours. The closure order means no one can enter the property for three months. Breaching this order could lead to arrest, a fine, or even a prison sentence of up to six months.
Councillor Peter Dean, Cabinet Member for Thriving Communities and Culture, said: “Oldham Council and our partners will not allow residents to have their lives ruined by the irresponsible and criminal behaviour of a small minority.
“I’m sure the action we’ve taken will be welcomed by the community and I would like to thank everyone who has played a part in bringing this issue to a successful end.
“If you witness similar behaviour, report it to Greater Manchester Police and the council's Community Safety Service, and we’ll take the appropriate action against the offenders. If you live in social housing, you can also contact your provider.”
Peter Davidson, FCHO Head of Neighbourhood Management, said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour continues to be a priority for FCHO, and we will not hesitate to work with Greater Manchester Police and Oldham Council to put a stop to it using measures like closure orders when they are appropriate. In this case, we will also be taking further action for breach of tenancy.
"No one has the right to make others’ lives a misery, and this latest action shows they will not get away with it. Everyone has a right to peaceful enjoyment of their home, and this is just one example of the strong partnerships we’ve built to make sure that happens.”
