Behind the scenes at our Royton South community litter pick
01/06/2023
Our Neighbourhood Care and Neighbourhoods teams together with a volunteer from community group, My Coldhurst, turned out to show Royton South some love at our community litter pick there last month.
Our litter heroes tackled abandoned rubbish at the Raised Heyside and St Marks Avenue areas in Heyside, as well as Hartington Court and Bamford Street in Royton – areas where we know litter and fly tipping are frequent issues.
Members of our Neighbourhood Care team collected abandoned bulky items too, to help tidy up the area.
Nazia Ahmed, our Neighbourhood Coordinator for Royton South said: “We know how important it is to customers that we keep their neighbourhood neat and tidy and cleaning up our communities is a priority for us too. Well done to everyone who took part in our Royton South community litter pick and thanks for your support.”
Great work everyone!
Ways we’re tackling litter and waste in neighbourhoods
Most people take pride in where they live, but unfortunately a minority don’t, and rubbish and fly tipping are persistent issues in a number of our neighbourhoods.
We know the negative impact this has, which is why we've launched a new strategy to help make neighbourhoods cleaner, greener, great places to live and support Oldham Council's Don't Trash Oldham campaign.
On a rolling programme until March 2025, we are targeting places affected by abandoned rubbish and arranging community litter picks, waste collection days, customer engagement activities to promote good recycling habits and improving bin facilities at communal blocks of flats.
We really want to make a positive difference in our neighbourhoods and for our customers to feel proud of where they live. After we have cleaned up an area, we are asking customers to help us by doing their bit to keep it neat and tidy.
