Helping to clean up the West Street/ Vale Drive neighbourhood
03/11/2022
Our teams, together with colleagues from Oldham Council and our contractor Casey were out in force tackling fly tipping and waste again last week - this time in the West Street/Vale Drive neighbourhood.
The session on 26 November was set up to help local people to get rid of bulky items.
Our contractor Casey - which recently delivered a £50k environmental improvement programme in the neighbourhood - generously provided two skips for people to dispose of unwanted items in. And we had plenty of boots on the ground to assist people with getting rid of their rubbish and do a litter pick of the streets.
Oldham Council colleagues also joined us to talk to residents about recycling, wheelie bins, and what to do with household waste – all to help keep the neighbourhood looking smart.
Community waste collection days like these are part of our new three-year strategy to tackle waste and fly tipping in our neighbourhoods and support Oldham Council’s ongoing Don’t Trash Oldham campaign to improve neighbourhoods in the borough.
On a rolling programme between now and March 2025 we are targeting neighbourhoods where fly tipping and waste have been identified as particular issues, and working to clear them up.
Following this, we will be asking customers to do their bit to keep their area looking good.
David Wrigley, our Head of Neighbourhood Care said: “Local customers have told us that they are concerned about the amount of fly tipping and litter where they live, and tackling this is part of our ongoing work to regenerate the area as our West Vale project progresses.
“Through our waste management strategy, we want to make our neighbourhoods cleaner, greener, great places to live. After we have done a clear up, we are asking customers to help us by keeping their area neat and tidy and together we can make a bigger difference.”
