New communal bins in Coldhurst to boost building safety and recycling rates and reduce fly tipping
25/11/2024
This week sees new communal bin stores come to blocks of flats on Raleigh Close, Anchor Street and Drake Close in Coldhurst.
The investment is part of our work to keep customers safe in their homes, while supporting locals to recycle their waste more easily and help reduce fly tipping in the area.
For customers who live in ground floor flats, waste and recycling bins at the communal bin stores replace individual wheelie bins.
This change is to reduce fire risk associated with wheelie bins stored next to blocks and ensure our customers' buildings continue to keep them safe and comply with current fire safety legislation.
For customers who live on upper floors in the blocks, the bin stores offer new on-site communal recycling facilities for them to dispose of a range of household items.
David Wrigley, Head of Neighbourhood Care said: "Keeping customers safe in their homes is our number one priority and these new communal bin stores ensure our customers in blocks of flats stay safe from risk of wheelie bin fires, while offering a convenient point for them to dispose of their waste.
"At the same time, they provide customers on upper floors with new facilities to recycle household waste and are designed to help reduce the amount of litter and flytipping in the area - which locals have told us they are concerned about.
"We are rolling out similar improvements at blocks of flats across the borough as part of our fire safety investment programme and ongoing work to reduce our environmental impact and support customers to reduce their carbon footprint too.
"We will be in touch with customers to let you know when work in your block will be underway.”
