New year, new homes: we're planning 54 new homes in Alt and Royton
27/01/2021
We have kicked off 2021 by signing contracts with development partners to build 54 new homes in Alt and Royton.
The move means we are another step closer to meeting our target of building 94 new homes for affordable rent in Oldham and surrounding areas in 2020/2021.
In Royton, Robwood Construction is building 16 one-bedroom apartments in the High Barn area close to the town centre. The £3 million scheme is due to start this month and be completed by March 2022.
A £6 million development will also start on a brownfield site off Cherry Avenue in the Alt neighbourhood and will comprise of 10 two-bedroom and 28 three-bedroom family homes, along with improvements to the surrounding area to benefit local residents. These will be built by North-West based firm, Tyson Construction. Work on site is planned to begin in April 2021 and the homes will be finished in August 2022.
In addition to these planned developments, we have secured 1 two-bedroom and 10 one-bedroom apartments at High Barn, Royton. These homes, which are already complete, are all adapted and equipped with level access showers. They will be managed by us and let to customers who have an assessed housing need for this type of accommodation by Oldham Council.
Joel Owen, FCHO Development Director said: “Getting into contract on these new developments and taking on eleven finished homes is a great start to the year. They will help make a difference to local people in our borough, where, like the rest of the country, demand for affordable homes outstrips supply. The schemes are part of our ambitious programme to provide much needed, modern, quality homes for people in Oldham and I look forward to work progressing this year.”
