Next phase of our Fire Safety Investment Programme launches - beginning at Littlemoor House
08/09/2021
Exciting news! Customers in 220 blocks of flats across the borough are set to benefit from the next phase of our Fire Safety Investment Programme. Work is now underway at our high-rise blocks – beginning at Littlemoor House.
Over the next 18 months we are spending £3.3million to ensure that everyone who lives in our blocks of flats with three storeys or more, benefit from our planned investment programme which includes:
- Fire stopping work to contain any fire should it occur in your homes, and stop it from spreading
- Improved fire detection within your homes
- New flat entrance doors in line with the new British safety standards.
We have appointed specialist contractor NEO Property Solutions to carry out the work.
While work is taking place, we may need access to your flat. The NEO team will contact you directly to let you know what work is to be done and agree convenient dates with you to carry it out.
It’s really important that you allow us into your home to ensure that you, your neighbours and everyone in your block benefits from these safety improvements, and we thank you for your cooperation.
We will be contacting you to let you know when work will commence in your block.
Steve Mather, our Director of Operations, Assets, said: “Continually improving your homes and providing high quality, safe places for you to live is our priority.
“This is an exciting phase in our Fire Safety Investment Programme and the work being carried out will help us maintain and improve homes in our blocks of flats with three storeys or more and ensure we get ahead of changes in government legislation, enabling us to continue to keep our customers safe now and into the future.”
This investment work is part of our Fire Safety Investment Programme 2021/22. To deliver this we’re investing £5.6m in eight key areas.
- New communal fire doors in our blocks with three or more storeys and new flat entrance doors where needed.
- Fire stopping work to contain any fire and stop it from spreading.
- Improving fire detection within customer’s homes (flats within communal blocks)
- Sprinkler system installation in high rise tower blocks to control any fire and reduce damage to homes.
- Bin chute and bin store refurbishments to help control any fires
- Increased ventilation in communal areas in blocks to help manage smoke
- On-going surveys of our external wall insulation systems on our blocks to confirm its condition
