Our grass cutting season is underway
03/05/2023
Our Neighbourhood Care team has started its annual grass cutting programme to keep your neighbourhoods looking good through the spring and summer months.
Teams are carrying out the first cut of grass in areas at the moment, and after that until October they’ll be ensuring we cut the grass every two weeks, subject to grounds conditions.
It will take us on average three weeks to get round the borough to do the first cut of grass. We thank all of you for bearing with us during the initial grass cutting period.

Nature friendly zones in your neighbourhoods
This year we’re building on our work to make neighbourhoods great, green, nature friendly places to live, now and in the future.
Look out for signs on plots across the borough where we are creating …
- Wildflower plots for flowering plants to grow and encourage bees and other insects to flourish and thrive
- Natural meadows where grass will be left to grow until the end of the cutting season in October. In place of the grass, we are encouraging natural flowers to grow, to create important habitats for insects and bring colour and brightness to our open spaces. Grass cutting in other areas will continue as normal.
- Native flower spaces where we’ve planted flower bulb mix to bring swathes of vibrant colour for you to enjoy and attract wildlife like bees, ladybirds and butterflies too.
- We’ve introduced our wildflower plots, natural meadows and native flower spaces in response to important feedback from our customers who tell us that sustainability is important to you as we look after your neighbourhoods.
These new nature friendly initiatives contribute to our ongoing work to reduce our environmental impact, help tackle climate change and deliver lots of other important benefits for our customers and communities, now and in years to come, in line with our Sustainability Strategy and Big Plan.
